The Primary Colours The three primary colours are Red, Green, and Blue. By mixing these colours you are able to get every colour in between, from black to white.
There are also secondary colours which consist of yellow, orange, and violet. If you were to mix a primary colour with a secondary colour than you would get a tertiary colour.
There are also warm and cool colours. The warm colours on the spectrum range from red through orange to yellow. The warm colours tend to come towards you, or feel closer to you, and come forward in a painting. The cool colours tend to go away from you, or feel distant to you, and recede in a painting. The cool colours , you can use a cool colour to change the temperature of a warm colour. You can use warm and cool colours side by side to contrast with each other White added to a colour will make a tint; black added to a colour will make a shade.
